March is a real transition month between winter and spring. True to form, it started where February left off with a cold northerly wind and frequent showers. Jackie Cain nicely captured one of the consequences over Great Smeaton.

The showery conditions continued through the month making ground conditions rather damp. Overall we had a typical early Spring mixture of see-sawing temperatures, often swinging wildly from cold to warm with some persistent winds. Although some of the sunnier days gave us a tantalising glimpse of Spring, we had just 9 predominantly sunny days compared with 18 in March 2022.
